A trip in simple terms can be interpreted as a long and continuing journey – having many segments there. Sections in the heads of Cahaya Novan and Tina Wahyuningsih. This exhibition presents two artists from Yogyakarta, who present their works in two different forms of presentation. This duo exhibition can also be understood as a joint road that continues between Novan and Tina, after previously collaborating several times in their work and solo exhibitions.
The octopus character that is often called “Vam-Vam” by Novan here seems to be deliberately shown to mark a more straightforward and realistic journey, in domestic affairs, to spirituality – its relationship with the owner of life. He wrapped it up in a playful posture towards the octopus.
Meanwhile, Tina’s work, the “Fantasy Trip” series, is intended to be brought into play with facial expressions as a concrete picture of the atmosphere in the human mind as a very utopian and wild form of freedom – manasuka that inevitably exists in our own minds through her anonymous girls.
Through the paintings presented by Novan and also by the art dolls by Tina, perhaps this can be understood as an artistic identity that is never permanent in a person. It is always in the process lane that continues to roll up time, treads the trail, becomes a meaningful journey. Like the segments and the aura – connected to each other.
Everyone can see this artwork hanging on our ARTSPACE – Lobby Area, on view from January 12, 2023 – March 12, 2023.
